U.S. officials say more inmates are joining a hunger strike at the Navy's Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba.
A prison spokesman said Wednesday that there are now 24 prisoners refusing to eat. He says eight of them have lost enough weight that they are being force fed through tubes.
The exact reasons for the hunger strike are unclear. Some detainees have accused guards of inhumane treatment, including mishandling Qurans -- a charge the Guantanamo spokesman denies.
The Pentagon says the inmates are angry that they are still being held more than three years after President Barack Obama said he would close the prison. Military officials say Congress has blocked the closure and refused to let the inmates be transferred to prisons in the United States.
