South African athlete Oscar Pistorius will probably testify Friday, when his murder trial resumes.

Pistorius' lawyer Brian Webber said the Olympic runner will "likely" take the stand when the defense begins its case.

The prosecution closed its case against Pistorius Tuesday.

Pistorius has pleaded not guilty to charges that he intentionally killed his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.

She died when Pistorius shot her through a closed bathroom door in his home last year. He says he thought he was shooting at an intruder.

In a rare public comment Tuesday, Pistorius said he was going through "a tough time." He also told reporters "we've got a lot ahead of us."

Pistorius gained fame as the first double-amputee to compete in the Olympics. The track star who competed in the 2012 London games is nicknamed "Blade Runner" for his prosthetic legs.
