Eleven Indonesian fishermen have been rescued after their boat capsized last week, as the search continues for 24 missing shipmates.

The boat left the capital, Jakarta, on March 3 on a voyage to Lombok Island carrying tons of fish and equipment when it was hit by stormy weather and high waves midway through the journey Saturday off in the waters of South Sulawesi province.

The 11 fishermen, wearing life jackets, drifted for days until they were spotted by local fishermen in waters off the remote Selayar Islands in South Sulawesi province.

The bodies of two other crewmen were also discovered in the region.

Maritime accidents happen regularly in Indonesia, an archipelago of 17,000 islands and 270 million citizens, thanks to lax and poorly enforced safety standards.
