Sudan’s ruling party has rejected an International Crisis Group report critical of the government, according to Rabie Abdelati Obeid of the National Congress Party.

Obeid said the Belgium-based think tank’s study is based on what he described as “false information.”

“We are not recognizing the content of this report because the situation here on the ground in Sudan is totally different [from] what is reflected in that report,” said Obeid.

In its report released Wednesday, the ICG said Sudan's ruling party is exacerbating ethnic and regional divisions in the country that could lead to more fragmentation of Sudan.

It further said the NCP has not addressed the root causes of Sudan’s chronic conflicts, including the alienation of marginal areas like the western region of Darfur, as well as border areas in the east and west.

The report warned that unless the grievances of other areas are addressed by a more inclusive government, Sudan risks more violence and disintegration.

But Obeid rejected claims that the government is not inclusive.

“[The ruling National Congress Party] is opening doors for all political parties and social groups to discuss the future of Sudan; politically, socially, and culturally. This, in addition to views from different groups about the relationship between Sudan and the international community as well as the neighboring countries in Africa and in the Arab [world],” said Obeid.

He said the government is very “keen” on resolving problems in the country, but blamed “foreign agenda” which he says foments tensions in Sudan.

“They are making news…creating conflicts and disputes between national groups here in our country,” said Obeid. “But, if they leave us [alone], I think that we can solve these problems in no time.”

He said his party has a 25-year “comprehensive plan” which will establish a broad-based government for Sudan.
