It is estimated that more than 100,000 people in Syria have been killed in more than two years of war. Millions of people are displaced inside Syria and well over 1.5 million refugees have sought asylum in neighboring countries.

More than two years of fighting in Syria's civil war has damaged some 9,000 state buildings and run up $15 billion in losses to the public sector, a government minister said on June 30, 2013, shining a light on the devastating toll the crisis has taken on the country's economy.
