Train Derails into Nairobi Slum

Rescuers worked throughout Sunday in Kenya after a cargo train bound for Uganda derailed and crashed into houses in Nairobi's Kibera shanty town.

The Kenyan Red Cross said seven people have been injured and there are fears that some people might still be trapped under the train cars.

The Red Cross is working with local officials to try to determine how many people lived in the area where the train derailed.

Some buildings and perimeter walls needed to be pulled down to make way for a crane required to upright the derailed carriages.

Kibera is Kenya's largest slum. Many houses in the area are made out of corrugated iron sheet and built precariously close to the railway line.
