Donald Trump is now the 45th president of the United States. After swearing his allegiance to the Constitution in a ceremony at the US Capitol Friday, Trump delivered a 16-minute address stressing his campaign theme - "make America great again." The 70-year-old president, holding elective office for the first time in his life, told a crowd of several hundred thousand people at the National Mall that his administration will transfer power away from Washington and return it to the American people.

Thursday night, anti-Trump protesters clashed with police outside the National Press Club in Washington. Inside, a pre-inauguration event called the "Deploraball" was taking place.

Mike Pence is also being sworn in Friday as vice president. Pence has said he and Trump would be "ready to serve the American people on Day One."
