Donald Trump is now the 45th president of the United States. After swearing his allegiance to the Constitution in a ceremony at the US Capitol Friday, Trump delivered a 16-minute address stressing his campaign theme - "make America great again." The 70-year-old president, holding elective office for the first time in his life, told a crowd of several hundred thousand people at the National Mall that his administration will transfer power away from Washington and return it to the American people.
Outgoing President Barack Obama walked out of the Oval Office Friday morning for the last time as U.S. leader. When asked if he had a message for the American people, he said "Thank You." VOA's White House correspondent Cindy Saine says Obama left a letter for his successor in a desk drawer.
