Officials in northwestern Pakistan say gunmen have ambushed a senior police commander, wounding him and killing his bodyguard and a driver.
Authorities say the assailants opened fire on Gul Wali Khan, the deputy commander of the Frontier Reserve Police, when he was going to his office Thursday in Peshawar.
Khan is in critical condition.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Peshawar is located on the border of Pakistan's semi-autonomous tribal region, the main sanctuary for Taliban and al-Qaida militants.
