Judges at the U.N. war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia have reinstated a genocide charge against former Bosnian-Serb leader Radovan Karadzic for his role in the killings of non-Serbs in the country's 1992-1995 war.
Thursday's decision overturns Karadzic's acquittal last year of one count of genocide. Separately, he has been charged for his alleged involvement in the 1995 Sbrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslim men and boys.
Karadzic also faces nine counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to his alleged plan to ethnically cleanse Bosnia of its non-Serbs through murder, extermination, deportation and genocide.
The ruling comes as Bosnia marks the 18th anniversary of the Sbrenica massacre. Thousands of people are expected to attend a mass funeral for some 409 victims recently identified after being found in mass graves.
