More than 7,000 Peshmerga soldiers have been wounded in the war against Islamic State in Iraq, according to Kurdish official accounts. Shahab Ahmed was a Peshmerga commander near the city of Kirkuk. He was wounded by an Islamic State explosive device in July 2014. As a result, he lost his vision. Most of his wounded colleagues were able to get back to their mission after treatment, but Ahmed didn’t go back because of his eyesight. The former commander has five children
