Somalia is trying to recover from years as a failed state, when it was effectively ungovernable. The process of normalization is being hampered, however, by the continued presence of al-Shabab, an Islamist extremist group that is resisting the efforts of the government and a western-backed African Union force to stabilize the region. VOA Senior Investigative Analyst Jeffrey Young talks to Vincent Makori about al-Shabab in the the Horn of Africa.
