The standard, which has defined the kilogram since the late 19th century has been based on Le Grand K, a chunk of platinum-alloy stored in France. Delegates, representing 60 countries voted to redefine the kilogram standard, as well as those for 3 other weights and measures based on quantum mechanics constants.
