British Risk Assessment Firm Warns of Increased Danger of Terror Attacks

A British risk insurance broker warns the chance of a terrorist attack on London has increased because of upcoming elections and the government's support for the Iraq war.

The company, Aon, has raised London's threat level from "guarded" to "elevated." This is higher than other western capitals.

The Guardian newspaper, which reported the company's warning, says Britain's Secret Service also is concerned about the possibility of terrorist attacks.

According to the Guardian, officials from MI5 have raised their threat assessment level to "severe-general." However, the newspaper reports senior anti-terrorist officials say there is nothing to suggest that the threat level should be raised further, despite the general election campaign.

Aon, which caters primarily to corporate clients, has indicated that it has adopted a different set of criteria from MI5.
