US Arrests Head of Guatemalan Drug Police on Drug Charges

U.S. officials say they have arrested Guatemala's anti-drug chief and two other senior officials and charged them with conspiring to smuggle cocaine into the United States.

Officials said Wednesday that they charged the head of Guatemala's anti-drug police Adan Castillo, his deputy Jorge Aguilar Garcia, and Rubilio Orlando Palacios with conspiring to import and distribute cocaine within U.S. borders.

A statement said the arrests were the result of a four-month investigation by U.S. officials and the Guatemalan government. U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration administrator Karen Tandy said in a statement that the men were Trojan horses, or conduits, for the very addiction and devastation they were entrusted to prevent.
