World No. 1 one golfer Tiger Woods of the United States has a one-stroke lead over South Africa's Ernie Els after the second round of the British Open golf tournament in Hoylake, England.
Woods shot a course-record 7 under par 65 on the Royal Liverpool course and is 12 under par 132 for the tournament. The round was highlighted by a 183-meter shot that found its way into the 14th hole for an eagle two.
Els also shot a seven-under and is 11 under par 133 for two rounds.The South African has not won a tournament in seven months, but had three birdies on the front nine and looked fully recovered from a knee injury that sidelined him last year.
American Chris DiMarco also had a seven-under-par 65 in the second round and is three strokes off the leader at nine-under-par 135. South Africa's Retief Goosen is currently in fourth place at eight-under-par 136 after shooting a 6 under par 66.
Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain, Adam Scott of Australia and Finland's Mikko Ilonen are tied for fifth place at 7 under par 137. Jimenez had a 2 under par 70 while Scott and Ilonen shot 3 under par 69s in their second rounds.
One name noticably missing from the third round is Fiji's Vijay Singh. Singh shot a 7 over par 76 in his second round and finished two over par, 146 for the tournament. Former champions Tom Lehman in 1996 and John Daly in 1995 of the United States also missed the cut.
The tournament is being played at the Royal Liverpool links course at Hoylake, England. The winner takes home more than $1.3 million.
