Nigerian officials say militants have ended their occupation of an oil pumping station in the Niger Delta region, freeing about 30 hostages.
Officials said Monday the militants vacated the station and freed the hostages Sunday after negotiations with the local government. It is unclear if any money was paid to the militants.
Oil companies are known to often pay ransoms in the region, but publicly deny it.
Gunmen stormed the Tebidaba flow station in Nigeria's southern state of Bayelsa November sixth, demanding compensation for oil spills. The facility is operated by Italian oil giant Agip.
The militants also had demanded a ransom for the release of about 30 people seized at the station, including local workers, soldiers and navy personnel.
