Only four teams remain in the National Football League playoffs after the New England Patriots stunned the host San Diego Chargers, 24-21.
San Diego was the top seed in the American Conference and had the best NFL regular season record with 14 wins and two losses. But New England quarterback Tom Brady overcame a career high three playoffs interceptions Sunday to lead the Patriots to 11 points in less than four minutes.
The Patriots final drive led to a 31-yard field goal by Stephen Gostkowski to seal the win. New England travels to Indianapolis next week to play the Colts for the right to advance to Super Bowl 41 in Miami.
Earlier, Robbie Gould kicked a 49-yard field goal in overtime as the Chicago Bears beat the visiting Seattle Seahawks, 27-24.
In Chicago's first playoff victory since 1994, Bears quarterback Rex Grossman completed 21 of 38 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown. Running back Thomas Jones scampered for 66 yards and two touchdowns on his 21 carries.
The Bears led 21-14 at half-time before the Seahawks fought back with 10 unanswered points in the third quarter to take a 24-21 lead. Gould tied the game with less than three minutes left, forcing sudden death overtime.
The Bears will host the New Orleans Saints in the National Conference title game next Sunday. The conference winners advance to the Super Bowl on February 4.
