Flooding Continues in Midwestern US

U.S. weather experts say failing dams are threatening to unleash more water into areas already devastated by flooding.

The National Weather Service issued flood warnings Tuesday for counties in several midwestern states - including Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Iowa and Kansas.

Heavy rains in the midwestern United States have killed at least 10 people in recent days and forced thousands of residents to leave their homes.

Authorities say roads and bridges are closed in many of the flooded areas. Power, sewer and water services have been turned off in some places.

Meanwhile, a heat wave is scorching the eastern part of the country, with record temperatures up to 38 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit).
