CIA: No Evidence Iraq Gave Weapons to Terrorists - 2003-11-16

A U.S. military expert says weapons inspectors in Iraq have found no evidence that former President Saddam Hussein tried to transfer chemical or biological weapons technology to terrorists.

Senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Anthony Cordesman, made the statement in a new report after meeting with top U.S. officials in Iraq and members of the Central Intelligence Agency who are leading the search for weapons of mass destruction.

The Washington Post said Sunday that the report claims the loyalist Fedayeen militia was the only terrorist group that might have received weapons technology from the Iraqi government.

The report also said U.S. officials in Iraq expect attacks on coalition forces to continue until American troops leave the country. Officials told him intelligence will never be good enough to stop all attacks.

Earlier this year, President Bush tried to make the case for war against Iraq, saying he feared Mr. Hussein's government would give weapons of mass destruction to terrorist groups like al-Qaida.
