Police in northeastern India say a cargo truck struck two minivans heading in the opposite direction Thursday. At least 28 people were killed, including several children.
Police say nearly a dozen others were injured in the crash west of Gauhati, the capital of Assam state.
Initial reports indicate many of the victims were laborers on their daily commute.
Police say the driver of the truck was not immediately located after crash.
Authorities say reckless driving is partly to blame for the high number of road accidents in India.
