The U.S. Senate’s new Republican leader is pledging to help end political gridlock in Washington, and Democrats, now in the minority, are pledging restraint in blocking votes. Such expressions of comity and optimism are the norm at the beginning of a new Congress, but they're quickly put to the test in the heat of passionate political battles. VOA’s Michael Bowman reports.
