Egypt Prepares for Presidential Election

A banner as tall as a building promoting incumbent President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi’s second term for president, is seen in Nasr Al-Ainy street in downtown Cairo, Egypt, March 12, 2018.

The campaign is driven largely by Egyptians' thirst for stability after years of turbulence following the popular uprising of 2011 that threw out longtime leader Hosni Mubarak. A campaign banner in downtown Cairo has the signatures of Sissi supporters.

A carriage passes a street sign, March 8, 2018, in downtown Cairo in support of President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi’s second term. It says, in Arabic, “we will satisfy ourselves to be ourselves decision makers.” Sissi is running largely unopposed.
