Astronomers, using data collected by two NASA space telescopes and a number of ground based telescopes, detected and studied a January 2019 Gamma Ray Burst in a distant galaxy. The astronomers say that the burst broke the record for the source of high-energy light in the Universe. It’s thought that these short but powerful Gamma Ray Bursts can generate as much energy, in just a few seconds, as our Sun will throughout its entire 10-billion year lifetime.
