Libyan Minister Shot Dead

Libyan officials say the deputy industry minister has been shot dead during a visit to his hometown of Sirte, 400 kilometers east of the capital, Tripoli.

The Libya Herald said Hassan al-Droui was killed after evening prayers Saturday near a market in central Sirte.

There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the shooting.

Since the collapse of Colonel Moammar Gadhafi's government, Libya has been plagued by sporadic violence, including a string of assassinations targeting top army and security officials.
