Nancy Dupree, known as Afghanistan’s Grandmother, Dies at 90

Nancy Hatch Dupree, a prolific American expert on the history, art, and archaeology of Afghanistan, died Sunday at the age of 90 after battling an illness in a Kabul hospital. Author of five guidebooks to Afghanistan, as well as hundreds of articles. She collected tens of thousands of documents to preserve Afghanistan’s history and culture. Those documents helped form the basis of the Afghanistan Center in Kabul University which she headed.
