Obama: US Has ‘Sacred Trust’ to Care for Veterans

America has a “sacred trust” to take care of its veterans, U.S. President Barack Obama said on a Memorial Day holiday weekend when Americans honor their war dead.

In his weekly address Saturday, Obama said the country must work harder to make sure veterans get the opportunities and benefits they have earned.

The president faces growing pressure over allegations of treatment delays and preventable deaths at Veterans Affairs hospitals across the country.

Obama also urged Americans to "take a moment this weekend to think of those who have died in service to our nation."

In the Republican address, U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster of Pennsylvania promoted a Republican water projects bill that Congress passed this week. He said it demonstrates Republicans' focus on jobs and government accountability.
