People Give Back on #GivingTuesday

#GivingTuesday

Tuesday, December 1 has been designated a day when people around the world are encouraged to give back.

The day, dubbed #GivingTuesday, is a 24-hour online campaign dedicated to encouraging people to make donations to charities, volunteer and support philanthropic efforts.

Since 2012, good deeds and inspiration for giving are spread through the Twitter hashtag and saved on the organization's website.

Last year, #GivingTuesday raised an estimated $45 million, with more than 15,000 non-profit groups getting involved in the United States, according the U.S.-based Case Foundation, which promotes philanthropic efforts. More than 30,000 organizations have signed up this year.

"There are so many ways to get involved in #GivingTuesday - in addition to making monetary donations, give blood, give a coat, give your time," Henry Timms, founder of the movement, told USA Today. "There is even a campaign this year to encourage organ donation."
