Singapore Police Fatally Shoot Man Near Regional Security Forum

Police step up security around the venue of the international security conference in Singapore following a shootout at a roadblock in which officers fatally shot one man and detained two others, May 31, 2015.

Police in Singapore say they fatally shot one man and detained two others when they crashed their car through barricades early Sunday near the venue of a high-level regional security forum.

The incident occurred near a hotel that was hosting the Shangri-La Dialogue tended by U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter and delegates from various of countries.

The event was uninterrupted, but authorities boosted security around the venue.

Police said substances believed to be drugs were found on one of the men detained.

There is no indication the incident is related to the security conference.
