Three Arrested in Myanmar for Insulting Religion

A New Zealand bar manager and two locals have been arrested in Myanmar, also known as Burma, for allegedly insulting Buddhism in an on-line promotion.

Philip Blackwood and two of his employees were arrested Thursday for promoting their bar with a psychedelic image of Buddha wearing headphones. The bar is located in Myanmar's main city, Yangon.

The three are scheduled to appear in court next week to face a charge of insulting religion, which carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.

The arrests come during a surge of religious clashes in Myanmar between Buddhists and Muslims.
