LIVE BLOG: Trump Sworn in as 45th US President

Donald Trump is now the 45th president of the United States. After swearing his allegiance to the Constitution in a ceremony at the US Capitol Friday, Trump delivered a 16-minute address stressing his campaign theme - "make America great again." The 70-year-old president, holding elective office for the first time in his life, told a crowd of several hundred thousand people at the National Mall that his administration will transfer power away from Washington and return it to the American people.

Later, the limousine was set on fire by protesters.

Protesters clashed with police in Washington as Donald Trump was being sworn into office. Black-clad demonstrators smashed storefront windows and scattered broken glass along a major downtown street. Washington police fired pepper spray, cornered about 75 protesters and arrested them about two kilometers from the ceremony at the U.S. Capitol.

Police also used used tear gas and concussion grenades to disperse protesters at several scattered locations in the city. At one point a group advocating for Native American rights chained themselves to a security checkpoint to prevent Trump supporters from entering the National Mall.

President Donald Trump has gotten back inside the black limousine after walking the inaugural route for a few minutes, with his wife Melania and his youngest son Barron. His motorcade is headed to the White House.
