Britain's Defense Ministry says a British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Iraq, becoming the 100th British service member to die in the war.
The ministry says three other soldiers were injured in the blast Tuesday in the southern city of Um Qasr. Further details were not immediately available.
Meanwhile, police in Baghdad found the bodies of 11 men who had been blindfolded and shot. Three other bodies were found in the nearby Rustamiyah area.
Also, there is no word on the fate of kidnapped American journalist Jill Carroll, who appeared in a video broadcast Monday on al-Jazeera television.
No sound was broadcast with the tape, but a newscaster said the veiled and tearful Carroll was pleading for the release of all women prisoners in Iraq.
Her kidnappers have threatened to kill her if that demand is not met. The 28-year-old freelance reporter was kidnapped January 7.
