Japanese Report Studies Possible Chinese Military Action

update

The Japanese defense agency has reportedly studied different scenarios for Chinese military attacks on Japan.

Japan's Kyodo news agency reported Monday that an internal defense review presents three possibilities for Chinese action against Japan.

It says China might take action to keep U.S. forces based in Japan from protecting Taiwan, to secure Chinese interests in a gas field in the East China Sea, or to seize a disputed set of islands known as Daioyu in China and Senkaku in Japan.

The report advises using diplomatic means to keep the situation stable.

Japan's defense agency also predicts China will boost its military capability to demonstrate its strength to Taiwan and the United States.
