Bush Visits Wounded Troops Today

update

President Bush Tuesday pays a bedside visit to U.S. soldiers who were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.

First lady Laura Bush will accompany the president on his trip to Washington's Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Mr. Bush awarded Purple Hearts to several soldiers on his last visit to the hospital in March.

The White House says the president will be thanking the soldiers on behalf of a grateful nation.

The visit comes as U.S. and Iraqi government forces fight to gain control of Fallujah, an insurgent stronghold west of Baghdad.

Total U.S. casualties in Iraq since the 2003 invasion stand at more than 1,130 killed and more than 8,000 wounded.
