The Democratic Republic of Congo has recalled its ambassador to Belgium following sharp comments made by Belgian Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht on a recent trip to the region.
Kinshasa Friday, ordered Ambassador Jean-Pierre Mutumba to return home for consultations about Mr. De Gucht's criticism.
On Thursday, the Belgian foreign minister told Congo's parliament the central African country is dysfunctional, and the international community should supervise it.
Congo's Information Minister Henri Mova Sakanyi Friday suggested the comments were racist.
Mr. De Gucht was in the region for a week-long trip to several countries there.
