Soccer: Arsene Wenger Signs 3-Year Contract Extension

English football manager Arsene Wenger signed a three-year contract extension with Arsenal Wednesday, which will keep him with the London club through the 2007-2008 season.

The 55-year-old Frenchman, who took over in September 1996, has guided the Gunners to three Premier League titles and three FA Cups.

The new contract ensures that Wenger will be in charge when the Gunners move from Highbury into a new 60,000-seat stadium in 2006. He had frequently been linked to a possible move to Real Madrid.

Wenger has been named manager of the year three times, including in 2004 when Arsenal won the league title without losing a game. The Gunners' 49-match unbeaten run ended Sunday with a 2-0 loss at Manchester United.
