Cholera Strikes Ugandan Refugee Camp Damaged by Storm

At least three people have died of cholera at a refugee camp in northern Uganda after the camp was partially destroyed by a powerful rain storm late last month.

United Nations officials say they died at the Pabbo camp, some 400 kilometers north of the capital, Kampala. Relief workers told Reuters news agency that at least 79 others are known to be infected, and they fear hundreds of others may carry the infection with no symptoms.

The Pabbo camp is where thousands of structures lost their roofs in last month's storm. It is home to some 62,000 people displaced by fighting between government troops and rebels.

More than 1.5 million people have fled their homes in 18 years of armed conflict in the region.
