Pakistan's Supreme Court Rejects Freedom for Disgraced Nuclear Scientist

update

The Pakistani Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking the release from house arrest of nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan for health reasons.

The scientist was confined to his home for his involvement in the illegal transfer of nuclear technology to Iran, Libya and North Korea.

The court Wednesday dismissed the move after Dr. Khan himself submitted a letter saying he is fine and that he had not asked anyone to go to court on his behalf.

The petition was filed by a friend of Mr. Khan.

Mr. Khan is the former director of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program. He was pardoned by President Pervez Musharraf after he promised to cooperate with authorities looking into his illegal activities.
