French Official Says No Sign Arafat Poisoned

France's health minister says there is no indication the death of Yasser Arafat was the result of poisoning - amid rumors in the Arab world that the Palestinian leader was poisoned.

Philippe Douste-Blazy told an interviewer Sunday, he has not seen Mr. Arafat's medical records himself, but said he is aware of no evidence suggesting Mr. Arafat was poisoned.

Saturday, the Palestinian representative in Paris, Leila Shahid, said it was possible Mr. Arafat had been poisoned - but she said there was no proof.

Neither Palestinian officials nor Mr. Arafat's French medical team announced the cause of death.

Members of the Palestinian militant group Hamas accused Israel of poisoning him - an accusation Israeli officials have strongly denied.
