Kenyan Korir Wins Philadelphia Marathon

Kenyan long distance runner Mike Korir has won the Philadelphia Marathon by a comfortable margin.

Korir covered the 42-kilometer distance Sunday in two hours, 19 minutes, 43 seconds. He broke the tape nearly five minutes ahead of Canadian Richard Tessier (2:24.53). Amos Gitagama of Kenya placed third (2:27.36). Yousset Eimiry of Kenya (2:28.43) was able to edge past the fastest American, Antoni Niemczak (2:28.59).

In the women's race, Russian Larisa Michailova won by nearly three minutes in her first official marathon event. Her time of two hours, 41 minutes, 57 seconds topped Philadelphia native Andrea Niggemeier (2:44.41). Casey Smith of the United States placed third (2:45.23). Seven more U.S. runners filled the rest of the top ten among the women.
