S. California, Oklahoma Keep Rank as Top Two US College Football Teams

update

Southern California and Oklahoma are still the top college football teams in the Bowl Championship Series standings. Auburn remains third with time running out to qualify for the national championship game. One week remains in the regular season.

The top two teams in the final BCS poll, which will be released on December 5, will play in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida on January fourth for at least a share of the national championship. Southern California, Oklahoma and Auburn are all undefeated so far this season with identical 11-0 records.

The three schools are ranked in the same order in both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls, which count toward two-thirds of the computerized and often debated BCS rankings.

Southern California strengthened its hold on the top spot with a 41-10 drubbing of Notre Dame on Saturday. Oklahoma and Auburn were each idle this past weekend. But all three will have one more chance to each state their case for an Orange Bowl berth this coming Saturday.

The major bowl berths will be decided on Saturday, including which teams will get the two at-large berths in the BCS bowl package. The champions from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten, Big 12, Big East, Pac-10 and Southeastern Conference make up six of the eight teams in the four BCS games -- the Orange, Sugar, Rose and Fiesta Bowls. The other two spots go to at-large teams.
