Plane Crash in Indonesia Kills 31

At least 31 people have been killed and scores more injured in a plane crash in central Indonesia.

Indonesian officials say at least 146 passengers and crew members were on board the Lion Air passenger plane when it skidded off the runway while landing Tuesday. The plane was arriving in Solo, central Java from Jakarta.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene, but witnesses say their efforts have been hindered by rain.

It is unclear what caused the accident.

Lion Air, a top Indonesian budget airline, has been preparing for expansion in the coming months.
