Gunfire erupted outside Haiti's presidential palace as U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell met with Haitian political leaders.
The exchange of fire between United Nations security forces and unknown gunmen occurred shortly after Mr. Powell entered the building in Port-au-Prince, Wednesday. Other scheduled talks have been moved to new locations as a result of the incident.
At the palace, Mr. Powell held talks with President Boniface Alexandre and Prime Minister Gerald Latortue.
The secretary's brief visit to Haiti is to show U.S. support for the political transition in the country.
