US Envoy Meets With South Korean Official on North Korea

U.S. Special Envoy Joseph DeTrani has met with a leading South Korean official in Seoul on ways to revive six-party talks aimed at ending North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

Mr. DeTrani met Wednesday with chief South Korean negotiator Cho Tae-yong. Mr. DeTrani told reporters that he is hopeful a new round of talks will begin soon.

The U.S. envoy held similar talks Tuesday with Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong and other officials in Beijing.

The United States, the two Koreas, Japan, China and Russia have held three rounds of talks in Beijing on North Korea's nuclear ambitions. A fourth round was scheduled for September, but North Korea backed out, citing U.S. policies it said were hostile.
