Former Indian Prime Minister Narasimha Rao is under intensive care in a New Delhi hospital after suffering a heart attack.
The 83-year-old former leader was admitted early Friday, complaining of chest pains, and suffered the attack a short time later.
A hospital spokesman said Mr. Rao's condition is stable, but he is being watched closely because of a recent history of medical problems.
Mr. Rao was India's prime minister from 1991 to 1996.
