President Bush is responding to statements by a UN official that rich nations have been stingy with foreign aid.
Jan Egeland, the United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, said the Christmas season should remind western nations “how rich they are.” The comments came following the Asian earthquake and tsunami. Later, Mr. Egeland said his comments had been misinterpreted.
Today, President Bush said he “feels the person who made the comments was very misguided and ill informed.”
