The University of Southern California, USC, has won American college football's Bowl Championship Series title game.
Top-ranked USC put on a dominating performance Tuesday night at the Orange Bowl in Miami, trouncing second-ranked Oklahoma, 55-19.
Matt Leinhart, winner of the Heisman Trophy as the best college player in the nation, threw an Orange Bowl-record five touchdown passes, to lead USC to the victory.
"It's a great night," Leinart said. "I think we proved tonight that we are the number-one team in the country, without a doubt. No doubt."
Both USC and Oklahoma had 12 wins and no losses in the regular season. Computer ratings and their ranking in the media and coaches' polls earned the right to meet in the BCS title game.
USC is not the only team to finish unbeaten . Auburn University also finished 13-0, and Utah was unbeaten at 12-0. However, Auburn and Utah are left to wonder how they might have fared, had there been a playoff system in U.S. college football.
