A group of Israeli army reserve officers say they will disobey orders to evacuate settlers under the Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's Gaza pullout plan.
The group of 34 officers published a letter Thursday saying any evacuation order would violate state and military law. Israel says it will dismiss any officers who continue to express such views.
Under the pull-out plan, Israeli troops will forcibly move any settlers who refuse to leave Gaza voluntarily this year.
Meanwhile, Israeli troops shot and killed a Hamas militant who infiltrated a Jewish settlement in southern Gaza.
In other developments, Israel's Supreme Court turned down a Palestinian Authority petition to allow thousands of Palestinians jailed in Israel to vote in Sunday's Palestinian presidential elections. The Israeli court says there is not enough time to organize a prison ballot.
