Death Toll Rises from Bangladesh Ferry Accident

At least 116 people are confirmed dead in Bangladesh from a ferry that capsized on the Buriganga river.

Rescue divers recovered more bodies trapped in the sunken wreckage Monday, and expect to find a number of others as scores of people are still missing from Saturday's disaster near Dhaka.

The M.V. Maharaj was sailing from the capital to the town of Chandpur when it was caught in a tropical storm. The boat is believed to have been carrying around 200 people. Only a handful of people are known to have survived.

Distraught relatives have gathered near the riverbank hoping to find missing loved ones.

Many passengers were heading home for a holiday when the boat sank.

Ferry accidents claim hundreds of lives in Bangladesh every year.
