Russian security officials say a senior al-Qaida terrorist network operative has been killed in the southern part of the country.
The Federal Security Service said Monday the wanted Kuwaiti national, Abu Dzeit was killed during a special operation in the republic of Ingushetia.
Russia's Interfax news agency says the al-Qaida operative blew himself up Wednesday as authorities moved in on the bunker where he was hiding.
Ingushetia borders Chechnya where Muslim separatist rebels have been fighting Moscow for nearly a decade. In recent years, the guerrillas have spread to neighboring republics in Russia's troubled Northern Caucasus region.
